WELCOME ABOARD
A Journey For Everyone
We want as many guests as possible to experience Cape Rail. Find information about accessibility, assistance, and what to expect before your journey begins.
Please note: following storm damage to the line in May 2026, our Lounge Coaches are temporarily out of service, and wheelchair access is currently unavailable. The train is running on Day Seating only. We expect to restore our accessible coaches once they return to service, and we will update this page when we do. Please contact us for the current position before you book. We want every guest to travel comfortably, and we would rather have an honest conversation with you upfront than have you arrive to a coach that does not suit your needs.
Our Lounge Coaches are wheelchair friendly and are the only coaches fitted with an accessible bathroom. For these coaches we have a boarding ramp available to help you get on and off safely. Our other heritage coaches are narrower, and boarding them carries a real risk of injury, so we do not recommend them for guests who use a wheelchair or who have limited mobility.
If you or anyone in your party is disabled, has reduced mobility, or has a chronic condition that needs regular treatment during the journey, please contact us before you book. We will talk through what the specific trip involves, what we can accommodate, and what we cannot, so that we can plan the right journey together. For some chronic conditions we do ask for a doctor’s letter, and we will let you know if that applies to you.
You can reach our team at bookings@caperail.co.za or on +27 79 401 9353.
